Annual Calendar of Business Activities
The Taneytown Chamber of Commerce follows a business year that begins November 1st and ends October 31st of the following year. Therefore, this listing begins with November.
We've started building this list in order to help all our members be aware of when we typically do things in a normal business year. Over time we will add to this list, and update it to reflect that on which we are working. If I have missed anything, please do not hesitate to send an email with additions, changes or corrections. Send email to Douglas@InfoPathways.com.
Annual Banquet
The annual banquet is typically held at the Fireman's Auxiliary Building on the third Thursday of November. It begins at 6:00 PM. The banquet is planned and coordinated by the incoming President (the Vice President).
Induction of Officers, Ceremonial
George Naylor provides the public presentation of our Board of Directors at the Annual Banquet, introducing each member of the board, and leading a ceremonial oath.
Monthly Meeting
There is no General Membership Meeting in November (although there is a Board of Director's Meeting). We attend the Annual Banquet instead.
Development of the Annual Budget
The Finance Committee should be working on the year's budget between November and December. The budget is to be reviewed at the January Board of Director's Meeting and presented at the January General Membership Meeting for discussion and approval.

Shovel the last snow of the season!
Banquet Planning
The Vice President should begin making plans and arranging for entertainment for the Annual Banquet, typically scheduled for the third Thursday in November. The entertainment usually needs the most lead time.
Spring Fling
The City of Taneytown has an annual event each May to bring out vendors, artisans, and the public. This event is coordinated by the Main Street Group.
Annual Dues
The annual dues shall be set at the regular membership meeting in June of each year. Members renewing their membership or new members joining November 1st through March 31st will pay the normal dues. New members joining between April 1st and July 31st will pay prorated dues for the remainder of that business year. New members joining between August 1st and October 31st will pay prorated dues for the remainder of that business year plus the next year’s dues.
Nominations Committee
The Nominations Committee, chaired by the 2nd Vice President, should be gathering up his/her committee to begin discussions about the recommended slate of officers for the next business year. This recommended slate of officers shall be presented at the General Membership Meeting in September, after which the floor will be opened to nominations for any of the positions on the Board of Directors.
Membership Renewals Mailed
Our renewal notices should be mailed out the end of July or beginning of August, giving each member 90 days to take advantage of the renewal rate. Along with the renewal notices, we need to prompt members for their ads for the Chamber Directory. Directory ads should be due on October 31st. This due date shall allow us to assemble the Chamber Directory at the beginning of the business year.
Renew your dues.
Bingo Planning
By now the Ways and Means Committee will be working hard to plan the Basket Bingo. Subcommittees should be formed and many of you should be involved in it by now.
Labor Day - Flags on Main Street, York Street, Frederick Street
Each Labor Day, members of the Chamber place the flags on Baltimore Street, York Street and Frederick Street. This topic is usually brought up during the August Board of Directors meeting and one or two members volunteer to handle the flags. Other Chamber members are welcome to take charge. This is our one holiday during the year when the Chamber helps with the flags. Other local organizations place the flags on Memorial, Independence Day and others. Flags go up Saturday morning and come down Monday evening or preferably, Tuesday morning.
Nominating Committee's Recommendation of Officers
The Nominating Committee shall create the list of Board of Director nominees, which shall be presented to the board for review and feedback. The Nominating Committee shall then bring the list to the September general membership meeting for presentation.
Open Nominations
After the Nominating Committee Chairperson reads the list of persons recommended for the Board of Directors, the President shall open up the floor for additional nominations.
Basket Bingo
The Chamber's annual Basket Bingo is one of our many fund-raisers. It's fun to work this event as a volunteer and or to participate as an attendee. Come support your Chamber of Commerce!
Chamber Directory Preparation
The general layout and art work for the new Chamber Directory should be started by late September. The ads are due by October 31st and the notice was included in the annual membership dues renewal letters, so the ads should start rolling in about this time.
Induction of Officers, Official
George Naylor provides the official swearing-in of our Board of Directors, introducing each member of the board. This is performed just after we have the election of officers at the October General Membership Meeting.
The Official Vote
If there were no nominations from the floor, we vote to accept the slate of officers recommended by the Nominations Committee. If there were nominations, we vote on who's to be placed in each position, on those positions in question.
LAST General Membership Meeting
The third Monday of October is the last General Membership Meeting under the existing board (duties run from November 1st through October 31st).
Dues Due October 31st
Don't risk a bigger bill. Pay your dues on time! Before this date you get a better renewal rate.
Chamber Directory Ads Due October 31st
The new Chamber Directory should be ready for print very soon. It would be a good achievable goal to have them ready to hand out at the Annual Banquet, but this is difficult. Typically they are ready at the January General Membership Meeting.
