Beginning Tuesday, September 21 and running for six consecutive Tuesdays 7-8pm, a Vinyasa-style yoga with a focus on breath and flowing movement that allows for different ability levels in one class will be taught by Laurel Brennan, Motr/L. Each class includes a warm-up, sun salutations, strengthening, balance, stretching and a meditation. Having students enjoy the yoga process is something that is emphasized over attaining any specific end result and each student is encouraged to move at his/her own pace. The classes are taught in a warm and friendly environment emphasizing the “letting go” of expectations & judgment and “listening” to the body. The class is limited to 8 students.
Laurel's focus has been on health and wellness for over two decades. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in occupational therapy. She works with adult and senior populations as an occupational therapist, is a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, fitness and wellness educator, Pilates trainer and yoga instructor. Yoga has been an important part of her life for the last 5 years to center energy, calm the mind and soothe and align the body. The cost for the 6 weeks is $100 and advanced registration is required. A fundraiser event to benefit Misfits Animal Sanctuary. To be held on Saturday, October 2 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 814 Lucabaugh Mill Road in Westminster. The event will include a large yard sale of “slightly used items” including furniture, knickknacks, toys, holiday items and more! Misfits is seeking donations of additional items to sell (no clothes or shoes please), and ask that items be brought to the Lucabaugh Mill Road farm. Grace United Learning Center of Taneytown has a new preschool class available this fall. The new class will operate from 12:30pm until 3:00pm. This class is perfect for students entering kindergarten in the fall of 2011 as it helps children adjust to having school in the afternoon unlike morning preschool programs. The program is conveniently timed so that children will grow accustomed to no longer taking a nap, allowing the children to better prepare for the long day of kindergarten. The class is open for only ten students each day, and is taught by two teachers. The low student to teacher ratio will allow for greater one-on-one attention and focus on kindergarten readiness. The smaller class size also means greater availability of classroom toys and playground equipment. The center provides snacks each day and needed supplies.
Grace United Learning Center is dedicated to promoting and providing high quality, affordable care for children of working parents regardless of race, creed, religion or income, and to assure the physical, emotional, educational and developmental nurturing of the children in our care. We are a non-faith-based center where the staff delivers excellent comprehensive full-day child care and preschool programs year-round. The center is located at 49 W. Baltimore Street; hours of operation are 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday. Open enrollment is being conducted for the fall school year.
